Project Overview
GMG Corporation was contracted to design and program a direct I/O communications driver for Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers to facilitate realtime plant production data injection into an SQL Server or Oracle relational database.

Design
Microsoft's Visual Studio development environment was utilized to create the graphical front end of the SQL Server A-B Bridge application. In order to adapt to a myriad of changes usually present at a system startup, the application was designed to be easily configurable in the field via software dialog boxes.

The Solution
Custom application development was chosen as a solution in order to create a streamlined, high-performance application to handle the hoard of production data on the back end of a rolling steel mill. The production data is logged on a realtime basis to the corresponding RDBMS and Level 2 product data is re-injected into the control system PLCs for labeling operations, etc.
