Project Overview
GMG Corporation was contracted to design and program the control system for a MRI finished goods monitoring line in the healthcare technologies industry.
Design
The MRI finished goods monitoring system was designed to monitor 64 cells in the finished goods inventory. The following process parameters are monitored for each cell: Helium Level, Temperature, Compressor Status, Heater Status, and Pressure. MRI Inventory is automatically tracked in the system via an integrated barcode scanner system and proximity switches located in each call. The system is designed to enable automatic inventory queries via Microsoft SQL Server 2005. The human machine interface for this project was provided by an OPTO 22 QLarity touch panel terminal. In addition, storage cell status is visually indicated via green, amber, and red ANDON lights located above the cells.
The Solution
This project showcases OPTO 22 PAC controller technology. OPTO 22 PAC technology was selected for this project for several reasons: Redundant Ethernet communications capabilities, Serial communications capabilities via Ethernet Encapsulation, hardware cost, Integrated SSID security, and scalability through distributed Ethernet connectivity.
Technologies In Use
OPTO 22 PAC Controller
High Speed Ethernet Communications
SQL Server 2005 RDBMS
Opto 22 (QLarity) Operator Interface
SSID Hardware Security
Benefits
The technology employed in this solution has been proven to reduce the plant's overall wasted helium. The status of each magnet is continually monitored, and operators are notified immediately in the case of a deviation. the implementation of this system allowed the owner to redeploy key personnel to other more profitable tasks.
